FAQ’S

  • Parent coaching is a strength-based approach to teaching parenting skills and improving challenging behaviors in children and youth. It involves providing explicit, actionable guidance to parents and caregivers, much like a sports coach would give to a player. This coaching is focused on the present moment and the specific actions that caregivers can take to alter or nourish their child's behavior. It is not therapy, and the coach does not delve into the past. Instead, the emphasis is on helping parents understand why their child is behaving a certain way and how they can respond effectively.

This coaching is delivered exclusively to parents and caregivers, not directly to the youth or in their presence. This is done to avoid disempowering parents or making the child feel like they need "yet another grown-up/professional" to help them because they are "so bad." Instead, the goal is to strengthen the bond between caregiver and child and put the responsibility for healing in the hands of the caregivers/parents.

  • Our parent coaching program is designed to be accessible and effective for a wide range of caregivers, including foster parents, adoptive parents, kinship caregivers, teachers, child care providers, even the whole family and others who may be struggling with a child's challenging behaviors. We welcome any and all parents or caregivers who have the mental capacity to understand and implement the concepts taught in the program, regardless of their specific role or relationship to the child. If multiple caregivers are involved in a child's upbringing, such as a grandfather and mother, we encourage all of them to attend the coaching sessions together. Additionally, we welcome the involvement of other caregivers, such as teachers or nannies, in the coaching process.

  • Our parent coaches services is ideal for parents who have a child who has extremely challenging behaviors or severe emotional dysregulation (trauma, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Pathological Demand Avoidance, etc.).

The methods used in our parent coach program are evidence-based and tailored to the specific needs of child behavior and parenting challenges. Unlike traditional parenting classes, which offer more general guidance and information, our coaching provides specific, directive guidance to help parents effectively manage their unique child in the present moment. This personalized approach has been proven to be successful with adult learners, including those with their own mental health or child development issues.
